Attn stands for Attention, a mail and postal abbreviation also used in geography.
Directs a letter or package to a specific person or department within an organization, written on the envelope or in the inside address, as in "Attn: Accounts Payable."
Example: Ship returns to Acme Supply Co., Attn: Returns Department, 450 Industrial Way, Columbus, OH 43215.
Usage notes
On envelopes the attention line usually sits at the top of the address block, above or below the company name. In email subject lines, "ATTN:" signals that a message is meant for a particular reader. The British equivalent is FAO ("for the attention of"). It is written Attn, Attn: or ATTN.
