ALG stands for Algeria, a country code abbreviation.

Algeria plays as ALG in FIFA and IOC events, unlike ISO's DZ and DZA. Algeria's 2–1 win over West Germany at the 1982 World Cup is one of the tournament's famous upsets.

Example: ALG won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019.

Usage notes

Algeria also won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1990. The ISO code DZ comes from Dzayer, the local name for the country.
