6DoF stands for Six degrees of freedom, a consumer electronics abbreviation.
Tracking capability that follows both head rotation (pitch, yaw and roll) and movement through space (forward-back, up-down, left-right), letting users lean, crouch and walk inside virtual reality.
Example: The 6DoF controllers let you reach around a virtual wall instead of just pointing.
Usage notes
Early phone-based headsets such as Google Cardboard and the Oculus Go offered only 3DoF, tracking rotation but not position. Modern standalone headsets use inside-out tracking with onboard cameras, while earlier systems such as the HTC Vive used external base stations. Robotics and aeronautics also use the term for motion in three-dimensional space.
