XC stands for Cross-country, an other sports abbreviation.

Running over natural terrain such as grass, hills and trails rather than track or road, especially as a fall high school and college sport. Teams are scored by adding their top five finishers' places.

Example: The XC team won its first state title with all five scorers in the top 20.

Usage notes

The "X" stands for "cross", as in XING for crossing. Cross-country skiing is also abbreviated XC. The World Athletics Cross Country Championships have been held since 1973.
