WY stands for Wyoming, a US state abbreviation.
The least populous state, with about 580,000 residents, admitted on July 10, 1890, as the 44th state. As a territory it was the first to grant women the vote (1869), hence the Equality State; Cheyenne is the capital, and most of Yellowstone National Park lies within its borders.
Example: Ranch supply orders for Sheridan, WY ship by freight carrier.
Usage notes
In AP and traditional style the abbreviation is Wyo. WY dates from 1963, and WI (Wisconsin) is the usual slip. The bucking horse and rider on Wyoming license plates is a registered state trademark. The name comes from a Lenape (Delaware) word often translated as at the big river flat.
