WN stands for Southwest Airlines, an airline code abbreviation.
Largest US airline by domestic passengers, headquartered at Dallas Love Field and known for point-to-point routes and an all-Boeing 737 fleet. Its traditional open seating ended in 2026 as the airline moved to assigned seats.
Example: Southwest flight WN 1234 to Denver is now boarding group A, positions 1 through 30.
Usage notes
ICAO code SWA; callsign "Southwest." The airline began flying within Texas in 1971 and became the model for low-cost carriers worldwide. The IATA code WN has no obvious connection to the name; the more intuitive SW was assigned to Air Namibia. Southwest long allowed two free checked bags, a policy it ended in 2025.
