w/u stands for Workup, a medical documentation abbreviation.
Set of tests, imaging and consultations used to investigate a symptom or suspected condition, as in "syncope w/u" or "anemia w/u". It describes both the plan and the process of evaluation.
Example: Iron deficiency anemia: GI w/u with EGD and colonoscopy recommended.
Usage notes
Also written "work-up" or "W/U". A "negative workup" means tests did not find a cause, which can itself guide decisions. The British equivalent heading is usually "Ix" (investigations). Some clinicians use "dx w/u" for diagnostic workup.
