USSF stands for United States Space Force, a military unit and organization abbreviation.
Newest branch of the US armed forces, responsible for military satellites, missile warning, space surveillance, launch ranges and space control. Its members are called Guardians, and the service sits within the Department of the Air Force.
Example: The USSF launched a new GPS satellite from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
Usage notes
The Space Force was established on December 20, 2019, by the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal 2020, the first new armed service since the Air Force in 1947. Its leader, the chief of space operations, joined the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 2020. Major bases were renamed Space Force bases, such as Peterson and Vandenberg.
