1. Air Mobility Command

Air Force major command responsible for airlift, aerial refueling and aeromedical evacuation, operating C-17 and C-5 transports and KC-135 and KC-46 tankers. It is headquartered at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, and is the air component of Transportation Command.
Example: AMC C-17s carried evacuees from Kabul to staging bases in Qatar and Germany in August 2021.
Formed on June 1, 1992, from parts of Military Airlift Command and Strategic Air Command. AMC also manages the Civil Reserve Air Fleet, under which US airlines commit aircraft for military use in emergencies. Space-available "Space-A" flights for service members and retirees fly mostly on AMC aircraft.

American cable network known for acclaimed original dramas such as Mad Men, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead, along with movies. Owned by AMC Networks.
Example: The Walking Dead premiered on AMC on Halloween 2010.
Launched on October 1, 1984, as a commercial-free channel showing classic Hollywood films. It now uses only the initials. Mad Men (2007) was the first basic-cable series to win the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series. AMC Theatres, the cinema chain, is an unrelated company.

5. US Army Materiel Command

Established in 1962, AMC moved from Fort Belvoir, Virginia, to Redstone Arsenal in 2011. The Air Force's Air Mobility Command uses the same initials, so context, usually Army versus Air Force, settles the meaning. Note the military spelling "materiel" for equipment and supplies, distinct from "material."
