U.S. Const. stands for United States Constitution, a legal citation abbreviation.
Bluebook form for citing the Constitution of the United States, followed by the article, section and clause or by the amendment number. Provisions currently in force are cited without a date, as in "U.S. Const. art. I, § 8, cl. 3" for the Commerce Clause.
Example: The plaintiffs invoked U.S. Const. amend. XIV, § 1, which guarantees equal protection.
Usage notes
Repealed provisions are cited with their repealing amendment: "U.S. Const. amend. XVIII, repealed by U.S. Const. amend. XXI". State constitutions follow the same pattern, as in "Cal. Const. art. I, § 1". In ordinary writing, amendments are given ordinal names ("the Fourteenth Amendment") rather than Roman numerals.
