ULEZ stands for Ultra Low Emission Zone, a driving abbreviation.
London charging zone in which older, more polluting vehicles must pay a daily fee of 12.50 pounds to drive. Launched in central London in 2019, it was expanded to cover all London boroughs in August 2023.
Example: My 2009 diesel isn't ULEZ compliant, so I'd pay every day I drive to work.
Usage notes
Most gasoline cars from 2006 onward and diesel cars from late 2015 onward meet the standard. The expansion was politically controversial, and a scrappage scheme offered grants for replacing noncompliant vehicles. Other UK cities operate clean air zones with similar rules.
