TNA stands for Total nutrient admixture, a pharmacy abbreviation.
Parenteral nutrition formulation that combines dextrose, amino acids and lipid emulsion in a single bag, often called "3-in-1". It contrasts with "2-in-1" formulations, in which the lipid is infused separately.
Example: TNA bag looked oiled-out with a yellow layer, so pharmacy was called and it was not hung.
Usage notes
Because the white emulsion hides precipitates, TNAs are infused through a 1.2-micron filter rather than the 0.22-micron filter used for 2-in-1 solutions. A visible oil layer ("cracking") means the emulsion has broken and the bag must not be used. Calcium phosphate precipitation is a key compatibility concern.
