Education & Academia · K-12 Education Abbreviations

Name for gifted education programs in Oregon, Iowa and several other states and districts. Oregon law requires districts to identify talented and gifted students and plan instruction suited to their rate and level of learning.

Example: The TAG coordinator meets with families to write each student's learning plan.

TAG and GT refer to the same kind of services; the label depends on state law and local tradition. Some districts use other names such as HiCap (Washington) or AIG (North Carolina). In California transfer admissions, TAG instead means Transfer Admission Guarantee.

2. Transfer Admission Guarantee

Education & Academia · Academic Abbreviations

Agreement offered by six University of California campuses (Davis, Irvine, Merced, Riverside, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz) that guarantees admission to California community college students who complete specified courses and grade requirements. Students may hold a TAG with only one campus.

Example: He signed a TAG with UC Davis after his first year at community college.

UCLA, UC Berkeley and UC San Diego do not offer TAGs. Applications are filed in September for fall transfer the following year. In K-12 schools, TAG instead means talented and gifted programs.
