SRV stands for Service (record), a networking abbreviation.
Advertises the hostname and port for a specific service, such as SIP calling, XMPP chat or Minecraft servers, together with priority and weight values that clients use for failover and load balancing.
Example: Create an SRV record so players can join on the bare domain without typing the port.
Usage notes
Defined in RFC 2782 (2000). Record names follow the pattern _service._protocol.domain, as in _sip._tcp.example.com. Active Directory uses SRV records so computers can locate domain controllers. Web browsers do not use them for ordinary websites.
