Song of Sol. stands for Song of Solomon, a Bible book abbreviation.

Collection of love poetry in eight chapters, celebrating the desire between two lovers, also called the Song of Songs or Canticles. Jewish and Christian traditions have long read it allegorically, as the love between God and Israel or Christ and the church.

Example: "Set me as a seal upon thine heart" is from Song of Sol. 8:6.

Usage notes

Chicago's traditional form is Song of Sol., SBL uses Song (for Song of Songs) and Catholic Bibles and Chicago's short list use Sg; Cant. appears in older Catholic references. The book never mentions God explicitly. Jews read it during Passover.
