CategoriesTechnology & Computing

SDHC stands for Secure Digital High Capacity, a computer hardware abbreviation.

SD card class for capacities from more than 2 GB up to 32 GB, introduced in 2006 and formatted with FAT32. Devices built only for original SD cards cannot read SDHC cards.

Example: The old camera only supports cards up to 2 GB, so the 16 GB SDHC card isn't recognized.

Usage notes

SDHC was defined in version 2.0 of the SD specification. SDHC-compatible devices can also read standard SD cards, giving one-way backward compatibility. Dash cams and older devices that require FAT32 often specify SDHC cards, or ask for larger cards to be reformatted. The logo appears on the card and the device.
