RUE stands for Right upper extremity, a patient assessment abbreviation.

The right arm from shoulder to fingers, used in assessment, procedure and imaging notes to specify location. It appears on IV site records, blood pressure restrictions and injury descriptions.

Example: No BP or venipuncture RUE, AV fistula; thrill and bruit present.

Usage notes

Side-specific abbreviations require care, because a misread side can lead to a wrong-site procedure. Universal Protocol for surgery requires the site to be marked and confirmed. Arm restrictions are often shown on a wristband as well as in the chart.
