RTN stands for Routing transit number, a banking abbreviation.
Nine-digit code that identifies a US bank or credit union in domestic payments, printed on checks and used for ACH and wire transfers. It tells the payment system which institution holds the account.
Example: The RTN on the form did not match the bank's wire routing number, so the transfer was rejected.
Usage notes
Commonly called a routing number or ABA number. The first four digits are a Federal Reserve routing symbol, the next four identify the institution and the ninth is a check digit. Large banks may use different RTNs by state or by payment type, so customers should confirm before sending a wire.
