ROSC stands for Return of spontaneous circulation, an emergency medicine abbreviation.
Restoration of a sustained heartbeat producing a pulse and blood pressure after cardiac arrest. It marks the shift from resuscitation to post-cardiac arrest care.
Example: ROSC after 3 cycles; 12-lead shows STEMI, cath lab activated.
Usage notes
Pronounced "rosk". A sudden rise in end-tidal CO2 during CPR is often the first sign. Post-ROSC care includes ventilation, blood pressure support, temperature control and treating the cause. ROSC does not guarantee survival to discharge.
