RDL stands for Romanian deadlift, a fitness and exercise abbreviation.
Hip-hinge exercise in which the lifter lowers a barbell or dumbbells along the legs with slightly bent knees and a flat back, then stands up, mainly working the hamstrings and glutes.
Example: Accessories: RDL 3 x 8, walking lunges 3 x 12 each leg.
Usage notes
Named after Romanian weightlifter Nicu Vlad, whose version of the movement drew attention at a 1990 training session in the United States. Unlike a conventional deadlift, the bar usually does not touch the floor between reps.
