MHR stands for Maximum heart rate, a fitness and exercise abbreviation.
Highest number of beats per minute a person's heart can reach during all-out effort, used to set heart-rate training zones. It declines with age.
Example: Zone 2 for me is 60 to 70 percent of MHR, or about 115 to 135 beats per minute.
Usage notes
The popular "220 minus age" formula can be off by 10 to 20 beats for individuals; the Tanaka formula (208 minus 0.7 times age), published in 2001, is somewhat more accurate. A supervised exercise test gives the best measurement.
