QPA stands for Quality point average, an academic abbreviation.
Alternative name for the grade point average used by some American universities, such as Carnegie Mellon, and many high schools. Each grade is converted into "quality points" multiplied by course units, then divided by total units attempted.
Example: Students must maintain a QPA of 2.0 or above to remain in good academic standing.
Usage notes
The term reflects the older "quality points" vocabulary of registrar offices. A QPA is calculated in exactly the same way as a GPA, and applications that ask for a GPA accept the QPA without conversion. Some schools report both a term QPA and a cumulative QPA.
