PS/2 stands for Personal System/2 port, a computer hardware abbreviation.
Round 6-pin mini-DIN connector for keyboards and mice, color-coded purple for the keyboard and green for the mouse. It was standard on PCs from the late 1980s until USB took over.
Example: The gaming motherboard still has a PS/2 port for keyboards that need full key rollover.
Usage notes
IBM introduced the port with its Personal System/2 computers in 1987. PS/2 keyboards send interrupts directly to the system and support unlimited simultaneous key presses, which is why some enthusiasts kept them. The port is not designed to be hot-plugged, so devices should be connected before power-on. Not to be confused with Sony's PlayStation 2, often abbreviated PS2.
