PRH stands for Penguin Random House, a publishing and book abbreviation.

World's largest trade book publisher, formed in 2013 by merging Penguin (owned by Pearson) and Random House (owned by Bertelsmann). It publishes through hundreds of imprints, including Knopf, Viking and Doubleday.

Example: The debut novel sold to a PRH imprint after a nine-way auction.

Usage notes

Bertelsmann became the sole owner in 2020. A US federal judge blocked its proposed acquisition of Simon & Schuster in 2022 on antitrust grounds. It is one of the "Big Five" publishers with HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, Hachette and Macmillan.
