Preb. stands for Prebendary, a religious title abbreviation.

Honorary title in the Church of England for senior clergy, and occasionally lay people, holding a prebend, a stall in certain cathedrals such as St Paul's, Hereford, Lichfield and Wells. Historically the prebend was an income attached to the position.

Example: The sermon was preached by Preb. Margaret Lloyd of St Paul's Cathedral.

Usage notes

Prebendaries are often long-serving parish priests honored by their bishops. The title survives mainly in cathedrals of the old foundation. In speech, a prebendary is addressed as "Prebendary" or by the usual clerical title.
