PGM stands for Precision-guided munition, a weapon and military equipment abbreviation.
Any bomb, missile, shell or rocket that uses guidance, such as GPS, laser or imaging seekers, to strike a specific target with high accuracy, reducing the number of weapons and collateral damage required.
Example: Nearly every weapon dropped in the campaign was a PGM.
Usage notes
PGMs made up a small fraction of munitions in the 1991 Gulf War but became standard by the 2003 Iraq War. Guided artillery shells such as Excalibur and guided rockets such as GMLRS extend precision to ground forces.
