PASI stands for Psoriasis Area and Severity Index, a dermatology abbreviation.
Standard measure of psoriasis severity that combines redness, thickness and scaling with the percentage of skin involved in four body regions, producing a score from 0 to 72. Trial endpoints such as PASI 75, 90 and 100 indicate percentage improvement from baseline.
Example: Week 16: PASI 90 achieved, residual plaques on elbows only.
Usage notes
Developed in 1978 for a trial of a psoriasis drug. A PASI above 10 is often used as a threshold for moderate to severe disease, for example in UK eligibility criteria for biologics. It is time-consuming in routine practice, so many clinicians use body surface area estimates instead. Pronounced "PAH-see".
