Branch of insurance covering damage to property, such as homes, cars and buildings, and legal liability for injuring others or damaging their property. It includes auto, homeowners, renters, commercial property, general liability and workers' compensation.
Example: She works as a P&C adjuster handling hail claims across Texas.
Usage notes
Insurers are usually grouped into P&C carriers and life and health carriers, which are licensed, regulated and analyzed differently. Agents need a separate P&C license in each state where they sell. "Casualty" is the older industry word for liability coverage. In Britain, the same sector is generally called general insurance.
