1. Of course
Texting & Internet Slang · Texting and Chat Abbreviations
Emphatic agreement or acceptance, as in "can I come?" / "ofc!" Common in texts and gaming chat, usually conveying warmth and eagerness.
Example: Ofc you can borrow my jacket, just bring it back Monday.
Friendly and warm, but it can turn sarcastic after an obvious misfortune ("ofc it broke the day after the warranty expired"). Mostly used by teens and young adults. In fan fiction tags, OFC instead means "original female character."
2. Occipitofrontal circumference
Medical · Pediatric & Neonatal Abbreviations
Measurement of head size around the widest part of the skull, from the forehead to the back of the head, plotted on growth charts at every well-child visit through about age two to three. Abnormal growth may signal microcephaly, hydrocephalus or genetic conditions.
Example: OFC 33.5 cm at birth, 50th percentile; normal fontanelles.
Also called head circumference (HC). Microcephaly is generally defined as a head circumference more than two standard deviations below the mean; the 2015–2016 Zika epidemic brought wide attention to it. Rapidly crossing percentiles upward warrants evaluation for hydrocephalus. A paper tape measure is used for accuracy.
3. Original female character
Texting & Internet Slang · Fandom and Fan Fiction Abbreviations
AO3 and fan fiction tag for a female character invented by the fan author rather than drawn from canon. Often written "Original Female Character(s)."
Example: The fic pairs the captain with an OFC who runs a bakery in town.
Tags like OFC help readers filter stories, since some prefer canon-only casts. Its counterpart is OMC (original male character). In texting, "ofc" means "of course," but capitalization and fic context distinguish them.
4. Officer (Ofc.)
Writing & Everyday · Title and Honorific Abbreviations
Police title placed before an officer's name in news reports, court documents and department communications. Some departments use Ofc. while others prefer P.O. or Off.
Example: Ofc. Brennan responded to the call at 2:14 a.m. and secured the scene.
Ranks above officer typically include sergeant, lieutenant and captain, abbreviated Sgt., Lt. and Capt. as in the military. Court transcripts and police reports often pair the title with a badge number. In mailing addresses, Ofc. can also mean "office."
5. Oceania Football Confederation
Sports · Sports Governing Body Abbreviations
Smallest of FIFA's six soccer confederations, with 11 member associations including New Zealand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Tahiti. It runs the OFC Nations Cup and OFC Champions League, and from the 2026 World Cup it received its first guaranteed place in the finals.
Example: New Zealand clinched the OFC's direct World Cup berth by beating New Caledonia in March 2025.
Founded in 1966 and headquartered in Auckland, New Zealand. Australia left for the Asian Football Confederation in 2006, leaving New Zealand as the region's strongest team. Under the 32-team World Cup format, the OFC winner had to come through an intercontinental playoff to qualify.
6. Office (Ofc)
Geography & Places · Address Abbreviations
Designator for an office within a building, as in 100 Main St Ofc 4, used by some business centers and medical buildings.
Example: Bring the forms to Ofc 12 on the second floor.
OFC is standard; Off. and Ofc. appear in older documents.
