NIBP stands for Noninvasive blood pressure, a patient assessment abbreviation.
Blood pressure measured with an external cuff, usually by an automated oscillometric monitor, as opposed to an arterial line inserted into an artery. Monitor screens and flowsheets label these readings NIBP.
Example: NIBP cycling q15min while arterial line is re-zeroed.
Usage notes
Oscillometric cuffs measure mean pressure most directly and calculate systolic and diastolic values with proprietary algorithms, so readings may differ from a manual cuff, especially in irregular rhythms or shock. Invasive arterial monitoring is preferred when blood pressure changes quickly or vasoactive drips are titrated.
