NEO PI-R stands for NEO Personality Inventory, Revised, a psychology abbreviation.
Questionnaire by Paul Costa and Robert McCrae measuring the five-factor personality domains and six facets within each, for 30 facets in total, using 240 items. It is a standard instrument in personality research and in some clinical and occupational assessments.
Example: Participants completed the NEO PI-R, and facet scores were compared with job ratings.
Usage notes
"NEO" originally stood for neuroticism, extraversion and openness, the first three traits Costa and McCrae measured; agreeableness and conscientiousness were added later. The revised inventory appeared in 1992 and the NEO-PI-3 in 2005. A 60-item short form, the NEO-FFI, is widely used.
