MB/s stands for Megabytes per second, a data unit abbreviation.
Transfer rate measured in megabytes rather than megabits, used for disk and SSD speeds, memory cards, file-copy dialogs and download managers. One MB/s equals 8 Mbps, so a 400 Mbps internet connection downloads at about 50 MB/s.
Example: The microSD card is rated for 160 MB/s reads and 90 MB/s writes.
Usage notes
Also written MBps; only the capital B separates it from Mbps, so check case carefully. SATA SSDs top out around 550 MB/s, PCIe 4.0 NVMe drives reach about 7,000 MB/s and PCIe 5.0 drives more than 12,000 MB/s. Game launchers usually show download progress in MB/s, which confuses users comparing against Mbps internet plans.
