LXX stands for Septuagint, a religious term abbreviation.

Ancient Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible, begun in Alexandria in the third century BC, which was the Bible of most early Christians and remains the Old Testament of the Eastern Orthodox Church. The Roman numeral LXX (70) refers to the legend that 72 translators produced it.

Example: Matthew quotes Isaiah 7:14 in a form close to the LXX, using the Greek word for "virgin".

Usage notes

The legend is told in the Letter of Aristeas. The Septuagint includes books not in the Hebrew Bible, the basis of the deuterocanonical books. New Testament writers often quote it rather than the Hebrew text.
