LUE stands for Left upper extremity, a patient assessment abbreviation.
The left arm from shoulder to fingers, recorded to locate IV lines, injuries, swelling, weakness or arm restrictions. Neurological exams compare it with the right arm for symmetry.
Example: LUE weakness 3/5 and left facial droop; stroke alert activated.
Usage notes
One-sided arm swelling in a patient with a central line or PICC raises concern for upper extremity deep vein thrombosis. After mastectomy with lymph node removal, patients are sometimes advised to avoid blood pressures on that arm, though evidence is debated.
