CategoriesTechnology & Computing

LPDDR stands for Low-Power Double Data Rate, a computer hardware abbreviation.

Mobile variant of DDR memory designed for smartphones, tablets and thin laptops, running at lower voltages with power-saving features. Generations include LPDDR4X, LPDDR5 and LPDDR5X, which reaches speeds above 8,000 MT/s.

Example: The ultrabook uses 16 GB of LPDDR5X soldered to the board, so memory can't be upgraded.

Usage notes

LPDDR is usually soldered beside or stacked on the processor, which keeps traces short and saves power but rules out upgrades. Its generations do not map directly onto desktop DDR numbers. The CAMM2 module standard, adopted by JEDEC in 2023, includes an LPDDR version (LPCAMM2) that brings replaceable low-power memory to laptops.
