LI-RADS stands for Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System, a medical imaging abbreviation.
ACR system for interpreting CT and MRI liver observations in people at high risk of hepatocellular carcinoma, such as those with cirrhosis or chronic hepatitis B. Categories run from LR-1 (definitely benign) to LR-5 (definitely HCC), with LR-M for probable non-HCC malignancy and LR-TIV for tumor in vein.
Example: 2.3 cm arterial-enhancing observation with washout and capsule: LI-RADS LR-5.
Usage notes
An LR-5 observation can be treated as liver cancer without a biopsy, an unusual situation in oncology. Major features include arterial phase hyperenhancement, washout, an enhancing capsule and threshold growth. Separate LI-RADS algorithms cover ultrasound surveillance and response after treatment.
