1. Inductance, capacitance and resistance (meter)
Science & Engineering · Electronics & Electrical Abbreviations
Test instrument that measures the inductance (L), capacitance (C) and resistance (R) of components, often at selectable test frequencies, along with related values such as quality factor and equivalent series resistance. Engineers use LCR meters to verify parts and characterize coils and capacitors.
Example: The LCR meter measured the inductor at 47 microhenries at 100 kHz, within tolerance.
L is the standard symbol for inductance, honoring Heinrich Lenz, and C for capacitance. Handheld LCR meters and component testers are popular with repair technicians. Measurements can vary with frequency, so datasheets specify test conditions.
2. Liquidity coverage ratio
Business & Finance · Banking Abbreviations
Basel III liquidity requirement that a bank hold enough high-quality liquid assets, such as cash and government bonds, to cover its expected net cash outflows during a 30-day stress scenario. The ratio must be at least 100 percent.
Example: The bank's LCR of 135 percent means it holds more than enough liquid assets for a month of stressed outflows.
The LCR was phased in internationally from 2015 to 2019. Silicon Valley Bank's loss of about $42 billion of deposits in a single day in March 2023 far exceeded traditional stress assumptions and prompted calls to revisit the rules. The longer-term counterpart is the net stable funding ratio.
