CategoriesArts & Entertainment

LCCN stands for Library of Congress Control Number, a publishing and book abbreviation also used in general use.

Unique number the Library of Congress assigns to a book's catalog record, used by US libraries to find and share bibliographic data. Publishers often print it on the copyright page.

Example: Copyright page: LCCN 2024937512, printed in the United States of America.

Usage notes

The numbering system dates from 1898, when it stood for Library of Congress card number. Publishers can request a preassigned control number before publication through the Library's free program. An LCCN is not the same as a Library of Congress call number, which sets a book's shelf location.
