kgf stands for Kilogram-force, an engineering unit abbreviation.

The force of gravity on one kilogram at standard gravity, exactly 9.80665 newtons. Older metric engineering, tire gauges (kgf/cm²), torque specs (kgf·m), hand-grip dynamometers and fishing-line ratings use it.

Example: Grip strength measured 42 kgf on the dominant hand.

Usage notes

Also called the kilopond (kp) in Germany and Central Europe. It is not part of SI but persists because it matches everyday intuition about weight. One kgf/cm² is about 0.98 bar or 14.2 psi, which is why some tire gauges in Asia read in it.
