Jamstack stands for JavaScript, APIs and Markup, an Internet & web abbreviation.
A web architecture in which pages are prebuilt as static files and served from a CDN, with dynamic features supplied by JavaScript calling APIs and third-party services. It is associated with static site generators and hosts such as Netlify.
Example: Moving the docs to a Jamstack setup removed the database and cut hosting costs to almost nothing.
Usage notes
Coined around 2015 by Mathias Biilmann, a co-founder of Netlify, and originally written JAMstack. Supporters cite speed, security and cheap hosting; critics point to long build times on very large sites. Many sites built with Hugo, Gatsby, Astro or Next.js follow the pattern.
