ISDA stands for International Swaps and Derivatives Association, a contract abbreviation.
Trade association whose standard ISDA Master Agreement is the dominant contract for over-the-counter derivatives such as interest rate swaps and credit default swaps. Traders and lawyers often call the agreement itself "the ISDA".
Example: We cannot trade the swap until the ISDA and its credit support annex are signed.
Usage notes
The 1992 and 2002 versions of the Master Agreement both remain in use, each customized by a negotiated Schedule and supplemented by a confirmation for each trade. A Credit Support Annex (CSA) governs collateral. ISDA was founded in 1985, and its Determinations Committees decide whether credit events have occurred.
