FIDIC stands for International Federation of Consulting Engineers, a contract abbreviation.
Geneva-based federation, founded in 1913, whose standard construction contract forms are used worldwide, especially on international and development-bank-funded infrastructure projects. Its contracts are known by color, such as the Red Book (employer design), Yellow Book (design-build) and Silver Book (EPC turnkey).
Example: The ministry tendered the highway under the FIDIC Red Book with particular conditions on currency risk.
Usage notes
The acronym comes from the French name, Fédération Internationale des Ingénieurs-Conseils. The current major editions date from 2017. FIDIC contracts use an engineer to administer the works and a dispute avoidance and adjudication board before arbitration, which is usually under ICC rules.
