IEE stands for Independent educational evaluation, a K-12 education abbreviation.
Evaluation of a student by a qualified examiner who does not work for the school district, which parents may request at public expense if they disagree with the district's evaluation. The district must either pay or file for a due process hearing to defend its own evaluation.
Example: We disagreed with the school's testing, so we requested an IEE from a private neuropsychologist.
Usage notes
Parents are entitled to one IEE at public expense each time the district conducts an evaluation they dispute. The district may set reasonable criteria for evaluator qualifications and cost. The IEP team must consider the results but need not adopt them.
