HSAT stands for Home sleep apnea test, a respiratory abbreviation.
Simplified sleep study done in the patient's own bed with a portable device recording airflow, breathing effort, oxygen saturation and heart rate, used to diagnose obstructive sleep apnea in adults with a high pretest probability. It is cheaper and more convenient than in-lab polysomnography.
Example: HSAT: REI 31 events per hour; severe OSA, auto-CPAP started.
Usage notes
Because most devices do not measure brain waves, they count events per hour of recording rather than actual sleep, so they can underestimate severity; a negative test in a symptomatic patient should be followed by full polysomnography. The resulting measure is often called the respiratory event index (REI). Also abbreviated HST.
