HKG stands for Hong Kong International Airport, an airport code abbreviation.

Hub of Cathay Pacific and the world's busiest cargo airport, built on the artificial island of Chek Lap Kok off Lantau Island. It opened in 1998, replacing the famously difficult Kai Tak airport.

Example: The Airport Express from HKG to Central takes just 24 minutes.

Usage notes

ICAO code VHHH. Kai Tak's runway jutted into Victoria Harbour and required a low, curving approach between apartment blocks, guided by a checkerboard on a hillside. The new airport was built by leveling two islands and reclaiming land. A third runway entered full service in 2024.
