HEDIS stands for Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set, a health insurance abbreviation.

Set of more than 90 standardized performance measures, maintained by NCQA, that most US health plans use to report quality of care, such as rates of breast cancer screening, childhood immunization and blood pressure control. Results feed plan ratings and accreditation.

Example: HEDIS season: chart chasers are collecting records to prove colorectal cancer screening.

Usage notes

Pronounced "HEE-dis". Measures are updated yearly and increasingly rely on electronic clinical data rather than claims and manual chart review. Medicare Advantage Star Ratings incorporate many HEDIS measures, linking them to plan bonus payments.
