GUI stands for Graphical user interface, a computer abbreviation.
Visual way of operating a computer through windows, icons, menus and a pointer or touch rather than typed commands. Nearly every consumer operating system and application presents one, with a mouse, trackpad or finger as the main input.
Example: The server has no GUI installed, so all configuration happens over SSH.
Usage notes
Usually pronounced "gooey". The modern GUI traces back to the Xerox Alto, built at Xerox PARC in 1973, whose ideas reached the mass market through Apple's Lisa (1983) and Macintosh (1984) and through Microsoft Windows (1985). Its opposite is the CLI, or command-line interface, and many professional tools offer both.
