GSTIN stands for Goods and Services Tax Identification Number, a tax abbreviation.

Fifteen-character number assigned to each business registered under India's GST and required on tax invoices. The first two digits are the state code, the next ten are the business's PAN, and the last three identify the registration and include a check digit.

Example: Please put our GSTIN on the invoice so we can claim input credit.

Usage notes

A business operating in several states needs a separate GSTIN in each. Registration is generally mandatory once turnover exceeds ₹40 lakh for goods or ₹20 lakh for services, with lower limits in some states.
