GMAT stands for Graduate Management Admission Test, a standardized test abbreviation.

Business school admissions test owned by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). The GMAT Focus Edition, the only version since early 2024, has three 45-minute sections, Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning and Data Insights, and a total score from 205 to 805.

Example: Her 705 on the GMAT Focus put her above the median for most top-20 MBA programs.

Usage notes

Focus Edition totals end in 5 so they cannot be confused with scores from the retired classic GMAT, which ran from 200 to 800. The new version dropped the essay and sentence correction questions and lets test takers review and change up to three answers per section. Most MBA programs now accept the GRE as an alternative.
