FOUC stands for Flash of unstyled content, an Internet & web abbreviation.
A brief moment when a web page appears as raw, unstyled HTML before its CSS loads and applies. It happens when stylesheets arrive late or are injected by JavaScript after the page renders.
Example: Inline the critical CSS so users stop seeing a FOUC on slow connections.
Usage notes
The term dates from the early 2000s, when the problem was documented in Internet Explorer. Related web-font effects are FOIT and FOUT, a flash of invisible or unstyled text, controlled with the CSS font-display property. Pronounced "fook" or spelled out.
